Overview

Gokyo Lake Trek is an enjoyable adventure of little more week duration walks from the popular town of Lukla, where scenic and short flight reaches you to land at Tenzing and Hillary Airport in Lukla.

Everest Gokyo Lake Trekking, where travelers feel in great spirits on reaching picturesque spot within the scenic and most beautiful Gokyo valley and its simmering glacial lakes surrounded by high peaks with world 6th highest Mt. Cho-Oyo the closest mountain range.

Brief about this trekking procedure:

Trek begins with gentle down and short ups walking into Dudh Kosi River valley and gorge, it an interesting to know that this adventure follows the river right up to its glacial source at Gokyo from the longest glacier of Nepal Himalaya known as ‘Ngozumba’.

Walk past nice traditional Sherpa villages where trails are decorated with prayer symbols and stone walls with spinning bells as the trek takes you into Sagarmatha National Park, (Sagarmatha for Everest in Nepalese while local Sherpa call as Chomolungma), as adventure progress heading high to Namche Bazaar.

At Namche, enjoy an excellent time having acclimatization days before heading into the higher country towards Gokyo lakes and its scenic valley, at Namche Bazaar with delightful time and short scenic walks to viewpoints for fabulous views of Mt. Everest, Lhotse, and the beautiful peak of Amadablam.

The journey continues on leaving the mainstream trail as our route diverts straight north with a steep climb and for every hard effort rewards you with marvelous views of snow-capped peaks, then walk into lovely cool woodland lined with rhododendron and pine trees.

Soon leaving the tall tree lines behind and walked into wide scenic terrain heading past the nice settlement of Luza, Machherma to reach our major goal and highlight at magnificent valley within Gokyo and its emerald-colored lakes catching reflections of white snow-capped peaks.

Around Gokyo Lake enjoy the free day with a steep climb to the highest spot of the adventure on top Gokyo-Ri at 5,357 m high for mind-blowing views of the mountain range that covers most of the world’s tallest and giant peaks.

Enjoying the moment of a lifetime experience descend back on the same scenic route for the onward journey back to Namche bazaar and then head slowly to reach Lukla for a short panoramic flight to Kathmandu, after a great marvelous adventure on Gokyo Lake trek.

Best season for Everest Gokyo Lake Trek

Nearly all months of the year, except monsoon wet rainy time of June to mid-September and the best time for this trek from March to May when most days are clear for views of mountains and pleasant walks with longer sunlight hours due to spring season, where wildflowers especially rhododendron and magnolia in bloom around mid-green hills.

Next, the best months are October to early December although cold in the morning and nighttime with freezing temperatures around higher hills, but with the fine clear day but sunlight hours due to autumn/fall and pre-winter season.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to the hotel.

On the main arrival at Kathmandu also the only Nepal international airport where you will be received by All Nepal Excursion's staff and guides for a short drive to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu city around the most interesting area in <strong>Thamel</strong>.

On checking your rooms, getting refreshed join with other trekkers for briefing provided by our guide or leader.

Evening enjoys group dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurant with a live cultural program to entertain you with dinner.

Day 02: Fly to Lukla 2,820 m and trek to Phakding 2,640 m - 04 hrs.

Early morning depart from for exciting flight drive to reach Lukla around Nepal Far Mid East, a busy town with a unique small airport named as Tenzing and Hillary, famous mountaineers to reach Mt. Everest in early 1955.

Lukla's first-day walk begins downhill following Dudh Kosi River to reach Phakding village for the overnight stop.

Day 03: Trek to Namche Bazaar 3,440 m - 05 hrs.

Morning on the pleasant path walking into pines and rhododendron tree lines with views of the snow-capped peak, the walk follows upstream crossing over bridges to enter Sagarmatha National Park at Monjo.

Sagarmatha Park is listed in world heritage sites, the trail follows a high bridge and climbs to Namche Bazaar, a colorful large village, nearly a size of a town with many good houses serving as hotels and lodges.

At Namche Bazaar facilities of ATM, Banks, post office, Cyber Café, Trekking / Climbing shops with stores and café, bakeries, restaurants facing views of Kwangde peaks towards the south.

Day 04: Rest day at Namche Bazaar for acclimatization and excursion.

Namche Bazaar is an ideal spot for rest day and acclimatization at 3,440 meters high before heading higher elevation.  The morning after breakfast take the short walk to the top of Namche at the Park headquarter area with a museum full of information regarding the Khumbu / Everest area of Sherpa religions, culture, history, mountaineering to flora and flora.

High hill of Namche offers stunning views of Amadablam, Tharmarserku, Kantega, Kwangde, Khumbila with Mt. Everest and Lhotse towards North, after an impressive morning head back to lodge for lunch with afternoon free to relax and catch up with the dairy and browse around the street of Namche, where once a week Saturday market/bazaar takes place.

Day 05: Trek to Dole 4,100 m - 06 hrs.

After a pleasant stop with a rest day at Namche, a morning short climb, and then on the nice scenic trail within rhododendron and pine trees with views of Amadablam and Everest, where our route diverts heading north towards Gokyo valley.

As the walk climbs and descends to Dudh Kosi at Phortse Tenga, a small place with few tea shops, a favorite lunch stop place.

With the refreshing stop, the second half of the journey leads to climbing for a few hours into the cool shade of the forest to reach Dole a small settlement for the overnight stop on route Gokyo Lake.

Day 06: Trek to Machherma 4,470 m - 04 hrs.

Morning short climb and enjoy the panorama of mountain range after reaching a ridge top on pleasant ups to reach a bridge on top Machherma facing glorious views of world sixth-highest Mt. Cho-Oyo.

From the top descend to reach at Machherma a nice settlement with many good lodges for travelers from here onward tree lines ends for short rhododendron and juniper bushes.

At Machherma for lunch and overnight stop with the afternoon free to relax or take a short walk around.

Day 07: Trek to Gokyo Valley 4,800 m /15,744 ft - 04 hrs.

Morning walk takes you to our main highlight at Gokyo Lake and its scenic valley walk to a small at Pangka and then climb on the rocky path around ablation valley as walk leads past the first lake and then to second lakes, to reach third and main lakes of Gokyo valley, also called Dudh Pokhari or Gokyo Lake.

Gokyo is located at the height of 4,800 meters, after checking into your rooms with time for lunch and a short walk around its lake with grand views of Mt. Cho Oyo world's sixth-highest with Gyachung Kang that reflects on Gokyo Lake.

Day 08: At Gokyo rest day with a morning hike to Gokyo-Ri at above 5,357 m.

A pleasant rest day at Gokyo, Early morning climb for few hours on the hilltop of Gokyo-Ri highest spot of the adventure at above 5,357 m offers a panorama of world four highest peaks with Mt. Cho-Oyu, Everest, Lhotse and Makalu in the east with a range of lesser mountains that surrounds you at the top.

Enjoying grand views of mountains with Gokyo valley its lakes include Khumbu longest Ngozumba glacier-fed from Mt. Cho-Oyu and Gyachung Khang after fabulous scenery descends to Gokyo for leisure rest day within beautiful Gokyo valley and its lakes.

Day 09: Trek to Dole past Machherma and Luza - 06 hrs.

Today a long day walk with downhill most of the way with few short ups to reach Dole, as morning leads on the gradual path with downhill to reach at Panga and then to Machherma with a climb onto a ridge, where long descend reaches you at Dole for last overnight around Gokyo area.

Day 10: Trek to Namche Bazaar - 06 hrs.

Morning short down with climb to Mong Hill where long descend reach you at Namche Bazaar for the overnight stop, after a scenic and pleasant walk of the day.

Day 11: Trek back to Lukla - 06 hrs.

A pleasant and relaxing walk as route heads back to Lukla on the last day trek of the adventure, with few short climbs, brings you back to Lukla for the last overnight stop around Khumbu and Everest and farewell to our loyal and friendly porters.

Day 12: Fly back to Kathmandu afternoon free at leisure.

The flight starts early morning, transfer to Tenzing and Hillary air terminal at Lukla airport onboarding the plane a sweeping flight of 35 minutes brings you back to Kathmandu and then transfer to respective hotels with rest of the day free at leisure.

Day 13: Spare and contingency day in Kathmandu in case of flight delay and cancellation.

Spare or contingency day in Kathmandu where the flight can delay with cancellation at Lukla can happen sometimes due to bad and unfavorable weather conditions, if all goes well on time as our itinerary days, interested people you can book for an optional tour around Kathmandu at a place of great interest or free for individual activities.

Day 14: International departure to respective countries homeward bound.

Last day in the land of world's highest mountains and exciting cultures, as per your time for international flight depart from the hotel, where All Nepal Treks staff and guide transfers you to the airport, with grand experience and wonderful memories of Everest Gokyo Lake Trekking.
