Season for Upper Mustang Trekking:

April to October includes wet monsoon months of June to mid-September, where Upper Mustang located within rain-shadow area with least rain falls than other parts of southern Himalaya.

Best time from April to June when most days are clear for views of mountains and pleasant walks with longer sunlight hours due to spring season when wildflowers especially rhododendron and magnolia in bloom.

Next best months September and October although cold in the morning and night time with freezing temperatures around the higher area, where days are clear with short sunlight hours due to autumn/fall and pre-winter season.

Upper Mustang  located around Nepal Far North-West Himalaya beyond Annapurna and Dhaulagiri range of massive peaks, with dry and arid landscapes of great beauty truly a photogenic country to visit.

Trek to Upper Mustang, a wonderful destination where trekkers will be fascinated being within strange and mystical area walking beneath towering eroded high cliffs and canyon that changes colors with strong sunlight hours.

The adventure takes you through nice villages festooned with Buddhist and Bon religious monuments with rows of prayer walls and spinning bells that make the journey around Upper Mustang a more interesting and exciting place to experience.

Upper Mustang trekking the main highlight of the journey to reach within the former walled kingdom of Lo-Manthang where you can explore nice paved narrow streets lined with rows of stone-built houses quite similar to Tibetan traditions and heritage life.

This Trekking, where a short scenic flight from Pokhara takes you to Jomsom, headquarter and main administrative town of Mustang district and hub of local Thakali people the tribe of Lower Mustang with Kaligandaki Valley.

From Jomsom heading into the windswept valley to Kagbeni an interesting village of strong Tibetan influences also the entrance towards Upper Mustang and beyond to Tibet near Karo-la pass on the border of Nepal and Tibet / China.

The walk continues into barren country heading through nice cultural villages and crossing few scenic high passes facing fabulous views of high snow-capped peaks of Mustang Himal with Dhaulagiri and Nilgiri’s mountain range.

Following scenic trails and then entering into the former kingdom of Lo-Manthang where visit takes you around great places of interest includes famous old monasteries and medial era town and tour leads to fort-like palace resident of late Raja / King of Mustang.

Day 01:            Arrival in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to the hotel.
Day 02:            In Kathmandu with a sightseeing tour and trek preparation.
Day 03:            Drive / Fly to Pokhara 860 m and transfer to hotel – 06 hrs journey.
Day 04:            Morning fly to Jomsom 2,715 m trek to Kagbeni 2,835 m- 04 hrs.
Day 05:            Trek to Chele 3,045 m – 06 hrs.
Day 06:            Trek to Syangbochen 3,800 m – 06 hrs with the visit of Samar and Ramchung Cave.
Day 07:            Trek to Ghami 3,510 m -06 hrs after crossing two lesser altitude passes,
Day 08:            Trek to Tsarang 3,560 m -05 hrs.
Day 09:            Trek to Lo-Manthang 3,840 m – 05 hrs.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu via various airlines and transfer to the hotel.

On the main arrival at Kathmandu also the only Nepal international airport where you will be received by All Nepal Excursion's staff and guides for a short drive to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu city around the most interesting area in Thamel.

On checking your rooms, getting refreshed join with other trekkers for briefing provided by our guide or leader.

Evening enjoys group dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurant with a live cultural program to entertain you with dinner.

Day 02: Drive / Fly to Pokhara 860 m and transfer to hotel - 06 hrs journey.

Morning at the earliest depart from the hotel by 7 a.m. and then on the road with an exciting drive to Nepal Mid West reaching Pokhara, a renowned touristic and beautiful place of Nepal and whole Himalaya areas.

On reaching scenic Pokhara transfer to your hotel near its serene Phewa Lake, Pokhara blessed with natural beauty located on the laps of Annapurna mountain range with towering peaks of Machhapuchare the famous ‘Fish Tail’ that touches the surface of Phewa and Begnas Lakes.

Pokhara a major starting and ending point of many trekking and other adventure around Annapurna Himalaya and beyond, where some can take the options flying from Kathmandu to Pokhara of 30 minutes scenic flight.

Day 03: Morning Flight to Jomsom 2,715 and trek to Kagbeni 2,835 m - 04 hrs.

Morning short and scenic flight to reach Jomsom from Pokhara, Jomsom a large town and headquarter of the whole Mustang area, located on a shelf of Kali-Gandaki River.

From Jomsom where the adventure starts towards wide Kali-Gandaki River valley to reach Kagbeni village, an important place to enter into Upper Mustang and beyond as far towards Tibet border, on this ancient Trans Himalayan Salt Trade Route of Nepal and Tibet.

Day 04: Trek to Chele 3,045 m - 06 hrs.

After Kagbeni around this exciting village, a short uphill walk to reach open and wide areas within the high canyon with towering eroded cliffs as walk leads to Tiri-Gaon village.

Walk around scenic landscapes with few short ups and down with winding path to Chele village for an overnight stop, Chele also spelled as ‘Tshele’ a moderate size village here from onward into more Buddhism culture similar to Tibetan traditional life.

Day 05: Trek to Syangbochen 3,800 m - 06 hrs with the visit of Samar and Ramchung Cave.

With pleasant overnight at Chele / Tsele village, the journey continues with a climb to Gyakar village, within wide barren and arid terrain to reach Samar village, a lovely village along the route as well explore interesting Ramchung Cave.

After few stops as the walk continues towards a small settlement of Bhena, and then leading to a steep uphill to Yamda La top at 3,860 meters a small pass, offering glorious views of Mustang wide valley including high peaks with Mt. Dhaulagiri mountain range. After an enjoyable stop with the striking views, descend all the way to Syangboche village for an overnight stop.

Day 06: Trek to Ghami 3,510 m -06 hrs after crossing two lesser altitude passes

After a pleasant and wonderful stop at Charang / Tsarang, morning with time to visit village old monastery here observe Buddhist prayer wheels propelled by fast-flowing streams of water, after an interesting tour of the Gompa/monastery, walk continues to Ghami village with majestic views of dry and arid country with distant snow-capped peaks and crossing two high ridge / passes with downhill to reach a nice village at Ghami for an overnight stop.

Day 07: Trek to Charang 3,560 m -05 hrs.

Morning leads to cross over Ghami Khola (stream) and then following a long row of interesting Mani walls (holy prayer stone) to reach at Dhakmar village, after a short rest here, where good walk brings of another few hours brings you at  overnight stop in Charang or Tsarang village.

An attractive village encircled by large crops fields with buck wheat’s and barley the only crops that can be grown on this high elevation and cold climate, at Charang / Tsarang after getting organized in local lodge or guesthouse for an overnight stop, with time to visit another monastery of Charang village.

Day 08: Trek to Lo-Manthang 3,840 m - 05 hrs.

Walk to reach our main highlights of the adventure heading higher side of Upper Mustang where Lo Manthang a former walled kingdom located, a short walk of 4-5 hrs to reach to Lo Manthang for lunch and overnight stop, the walk follows a gentle path and then crossing a steel bridge to reach at Marang village, from here the trail winds up to a ridge top to a Buddhist monument called Chorten with mani stones in between Charang and Lo Manthang, offers grand views of dramatic landscapes which is an extension of Tibetan plateau facing Nilgiri’s, Tilicho and Bhrikuti mountains.

After a wonderful scenery walk leads to a climb over Lo La pass at above 3,950 meters high and then downhill to a stream with an hour walk to enter walled village/town of Lo Manthang and then into a nice lodge for overnight stops.

Day 09: At Lo-Manthang rest day to explore around.

An interesting and exciting place as well the highest overnight stop of the journey, the morning after breakfast explore around important places and worth of visit to the palace like a fort, where all houses are of Tibetan style with strong influence and way of life also, visit through narrow lane and streets of the village.

Lo-Manthang houses four major monasteries Namgyal Gompa, Champa-Lakhang (God House), Red Thupten Gompa, Chyodi Gompa and the great Entrance Hall.

Day 10: Trek to Dhakmar (3810m) - 05 hrs.

Enjoying great moment around Lo-Manthang, return journey on the same route for few hours with the gradual walk up to Marang village, from here turns right to the west on an old path to reach at Dhakmar village, around this area afternoon can be very windy with dust, so starting early in the morning is highly suggested.

Day 11: Trek to Ghiling (3,806m) - 06 hrs.

On leaving Dhakmar village walk follows on longest and interesting rows of Mani walls (Sacred-Holy prayer stone wall built by locals and Buddhist pilgrims), then cross a bridge of Ghami Khola to reach Ghami village, from here few hours walk brings you at Ghiling for an overnight stop with time to visit Geling monastery and water-powered prayer wheel.

Day 12: Trek to Chusang (3,050m) - 05 hrs.

From here with a gentle climb to Syangboche village, to reach a small pass over Yamda La at 3,860 m facing views of snow peaks and of Mustang beautiful landscapes, then downhill leads past villages of Bhena and Samar.

Walk follows a stream that leads all the way to Chusang village for overnight stop after walking past Gyakar and Chele villages.

Day 13: Trek to Jomsom (2,715 m) - 06 hrs.

After Chusang/ Tsusang walking on an easier and moderate path all the way, a big drop of 1,200 m to reach Kaligandaki River valley, as walk leads to Kagbeni and Ekale Bhatti then back at Jomsom town afternoon free to explore around Jomsom.

Day 14: Fly back to Pokhara, transfer to respective hotel near Phewa Lake.

Morning walk to Jomsom airport for a scenic flight to Pokhara facing grand views of massive Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountains, on landing transfer to your hotel in Pokhara by the serene Phewa Lake.

Day 15: Fly or drive back to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel.

The morning after breakfast in the hotel departs for Kathmandu of more than five hours of interesting and exciting drives following the main highway through nice farm villages and towns with views of the snow-capped mountain range.

As the drive continues then on winding up to reach the top spot on the outskirt of Kathmandu valley and the city, a short drive from the top reaches you to your hotel, with afternoon free for individual activities and shopping.

Day 16: International departure to respective countries homeward bound.

Last day in the land of world highest mountains and exciting cultures, as per your time for international flight depart from the hotel, where All Nepal Treks staff and guide transfers you to the airport, with grand experience and beautiful memories of Upper Mustang Trekking.
