Overview

Holy Gosainkund located on hidden corners around high areas of Langtang Himal ridges within Central Himalaya, the closest mountain range from the capital Kathmandu where the interesting drive of 5-6 hours reaches you at Dhunche town to begin onward treks to a holy pond of Gosainkund.

Holy Gosainkund trekking takes you to a famous pilgrimage spot where once a year great festival event held, an important pilgrimage destination for Hindu and as well for some Buddhist followers.

Holy Gosainkund believed that once it had 108 ponds where at present hardly 10-12 such ponds are found some large and with smaller ones where Lord Shiva formed the pond with his mighty trident to quench the thirst and to dilute the lethal poison that he swallowed to save the earth.

With much mythology background makes this place very special for Himalayan pilgrimage where travelers can enjoy the religious spot along with lovely views of high snow-capped peaks on the marvelous Holy Gosainkund Trekking.

The adventure begins with an exciting overland journey from Kathmandu to reach north towards Langtang Himal range at the large town of Dhunche a headquarter of Rasuwa district within Langtang Himal range, and home of Tamang ingenious tribe of Central Himalaya.

The walk starts heading with a climb into a beautiful forest of tall rhododendron and pine trees to reach a small village of Sing Gompa and then head further high on leaving tall trees for short dwarf bushes to reach the holy spot of Gosainkund.

Enjoy fabulous and marvelous time around sacred and holy sites of Gosainkund, along with an exciting panorama of the high mountain range and then head downhill to reach road-head at Dhunche for the drive back to Kathmandu, after a most remarkable short adventure on Holy Gosainkund Trekking.

Season for Holy Gosainkund Trekking:

March to May with mid-September till early December are the best months for the walk to holy Gosainkund Trekking, where spring season of March to May hills are alive with wildflowers in full bloom times, especially rhododendron and magnolia in bloom.

During spring most days are clear for views of mountains and pleasant walks with longer sunlight hours due to springtime, another best months from mid-September to early December although cold morning and night time with freezing temperatures around higher hills, but with the fine clear day but sunlight hours due to autumn/fall and pre-winter season.

But for holy pilgrimage where one can visit during the wet month of monsoon season during August when holy Hindu festival called ‘Jani Purnima’ is held falls during Full Moon time as per Hindu calendar for the auspicious day.

Day 01: Arrival in Kathmandu and transfer to the hotel.

On the main arrival at Kathmandu also the only Nepal international airport where you will be received by All Nepal Treks and Excursion staff and guides for a short drive to your hotel in the hub of Kathmandu city around the most interesting area in Thamel.

On checking your rooms, getting refreshed join with other trekkers for briefing provided by our guide or leader.

Evening enjoys group dinner in a nice authentic Nepalese restaurant with a live cultural program to entertain you with dinner.

Day 02: In Kathmandu with a sightseeing tour and trek preparation.

Today after breakfast we start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of PashupatiNath, the famous 'Monkey Temple' (Swayambhunath) and Buddhist shrine (BouddhaNath) which is one of the largest stupas in the world. At noon, there will be a pre-trip discussion where we can meet our trek leader and other team members. Overnight in Kathmandu. Provided meals- Breakfast only.

Day 03: Drive to Dhunche 1,950 - 06 hrs.

Morning drive towards the north of Kathmandu valley, the journey continues on the winding road past many farm villages and towns within warm areas of Trisuli and Nuwakot district.

The journey continues on the uphill winding road reaching at a cooler area in Dhunche town for an overnight stop, a headquarter and Administrative town of Rasuwa district within Langtang Himal, where Langtang National Park starts and ends.

Day 04: Trek to Sing Gompa / Chandanbari 3,254 m - 05 hrs.

From Dhunche on the nice road for a while to reach a riverbank, after crossing a bridge on winding uphill path into the deep alpine forested area, as climb leads adding more heights facing views of Ganesh-Himal, Manaslu, Langtang and as far towards Annapurna range due west, after some refreshing stops on the route, the walk continues within farmlands then into the enchanting forest for a while, and then suddenly reaching a clearing at Sing Gompa for an overnight stop near its old monastery, this small village also called Chandanbari (means a place for sandal-wood tree).

Day 05: Trek to Gosainkund 4,381 m - 05 hrs.

Start morning walk with the climb to higher ridge rewards you with views of Langtang towards the north with Ganesh-Himal north-west extends to Manaslu and Annapurna range in the far west direction, the walk continues entering into a forest and then soon leaving tree lines for a smaller rhododendron, juniper and alpine bushes on reach a scenic spot at Laurabinaya. The walk continues uphill past a few teahouses of Laurabinaya, which means a place of walking sticks. (inauspicious time of Hindu festival called Jani Purnima pilgrims visits in large number to Gosainkund for a holy bath and as well for a dip in holy pond belief it relinquishes a sin of a hundred lifetimes). This is where Hindu pilgrims leave their walking sticks hence the name ‘Laurabinaya’, after reaching a high hill and then short descend towards Swaraswati and Bhiaravkund ponds, and then short climb to reach at Gosainkund for overnights near its holy clear icy pond.

Day 06: At Gosainkund for a local hike around holy pond and scenic viewpoint hills.

Rest day at holy Gosainkund within a lovely spot surrounded by high rocky cliffs and tiers of green hills, with optional walks around this beautiful location, in the month of August ‘Janai Purnima’s a religious festival takes place once a year as per the Hindu Lunar calendar.

A great number of Hindu pilgrims visit during wet months of monsoon season, where Hindu followers and devotees reach here to worship Lord Shiva (one of the main three Hindu Gods), and for a dip in a holy icy pond. The belief is that it washes the sin of hundreds of lifetime, where Hindu followers change their sacred thread, every year on this day.

Day 07: Trek to Sing Gompa - 04 hrs.

After a glorious time with great spiritual feeling along with scenic views, the morning after breakfast heads down and up to Laurabinaya hilltop offers tremendous views of surrounding landscapes and peaks of Manaslu-Ganesh and Langtang Himal.

As walk leads back on long descend reaching back into a forested area and then at Sing Gompa for an overnight stop.

Day 08: Trek back to Dhunche town - 05 hrs.

A leisure day with a long downhill into the pleasant cool shade of woodland and past few cattle herders huts and shades to reach at the bottom of a hill near a small bridge with few shops and local tea-houses.

From here on easy trail reaching at the motorable road with a short winding climb to reach at the hotel or lodge in Dhunche town, for last overnight stop around Langtang Himal within Rasuwa district in the land of Tamang people.

Day 09: Drive to Kathmandu and transfer to hotel - 05 hrs.

Morning from Dhunche town where the exciting overland journey takes you back to Kathmandu on route observes Nepalese country life as drive leads past farm villages and towns to reach at Kathmandu around afternoon time, rest of the day free for individual activities and shopping souvenirs.

Day 10: International departure to respective countries homeward bound.
